Sawasawa Organic Farm began as a journey of necessity and evolved into a vision of community transformation. Coming from the slopes of Mt. Elgon, my traditional Elgon Maasai diet of milk, meat, and blood significantly differed from the food available in the United States. Adjusting to this dietary change was challenging, resulting in substantial weight loss and homesickness. To overcome these obstacles, I began farming vegetables, leading to a passion for organic agriculture. Thus, Sawasawa Organic Farm was founded—its name was derived from the Swahili word ‘SawaSawa,’ meaning ‘good,’ symbolizing our dedication to health, quality food, and a sustainable future.
